Concubine Ah-Duo has departed from the rear palace and in The Apothecary Diaries Episode 12 will have a date between Jinshi and Maomao as the preview suggests.
In the last episode, we saw that after knowing the involvement of her father in the rear palace from a few years earlier Maomao was able to figure out things more clearly than before. She then went to meet Concubine Ah-Duo’s first lady-in-waiting Fengming to discuss some matters. It was then revealed that Concubine Ah-Duo could not give birth to another child because of some complications during the last childbirth.
Fengming was unaware of the fact that honey could be dangerous for infants and fed honey to Ah-Duo’s child. This claimed that kid’s life but when she got to know about this she felt guilty and to secure Concubine’s place in the rear palace she decided to take the extreme step to poison Concubine Lishu so that Ah-Duo could stay in the rear palace for a long. The Apothecary Diaries Episode 11 Recap
In Episode 11, we saw that after reading the old files from the past Maomao was able to reach some kind of conclusion and then decided to meet Concubine Ah-Duo’s head lady-in-waiting Fengming. Maomao then started asking some questions and then revealed to Fengming that she knew about what happened at Ah-Duo’s childbirth and how her kid died. She told her that Concubine Ah-Duo could no longer become a mother due to some complications during her last childbirth.
She then told Fengming that the reason behind her kid’s death was unknown but Maomao knew that it was because of honey. Honey is dangerous for infants and could claim their lives but Fengming was unaware of the fact at that time and she fed that to Ah-Duo’s child. When she got to know she blamed herself for what happened. Concubine Lishu was always fond of Concubine Ah-Duo but Fengming also drove her away.
Both the concubines shared a mother-daughter bond. When Fengming got to know that a new concubine would be taking Ah-Duo’s place she tried to poison Lishu. After all this talk Maomao suggested to her to take the fall for poisoning and no one has to know about the child. She then confessed to poisoning Concubine Lishu and then got executed.
Maomao then met Ah-Duo on the roof and they shared a drink. Looked like Ah-Duo knew all about this. It was also revealed that Jinshi and Ah-Duo are related. The episode ended with Ah-Duo leaving the rear palace.
