Maomao has taken a look into the past of the rear palace and in The Apothecary Diaries Episode 11, she will look for more answers about what his father was doing in this place.
In the last episode, we saw an unknown man drinking by himself. Maomao was seen talking with her friend from the rear palace about the woman who died a few days ago and she was considered the one who tried to poison Lishu-sama. She worked at Garnet Pavilion and was working under Concubine Ah-Duo. We then saw how women were treated at the rear palace and could be removed from there without any reason.
The reason behind trying to poison Lishu might be that the emperor is taking a new Concubine and there are already four Concubines so one has to go and Lishu’s assassination would empty the place for a new concubine without any effort. Jinshi assigned a task and sent Maomao to work at Garnet Pavilion under Ah-Duo. She then noticed that the head lady-in-waiting must be hiding something and she is something else than she pretends. The Apothecary Diaries Episode 10 Recap
In the previous episode, we saw that the matter of the woman that died cooled down but Jinshi was still onto it and the talk was still on inside the rear palace. Maomao then explained how the rear palace worked and how things were still tough for concubines. She explained that Lishu’s alleged poisoning might also be because some other concubine wanted to secure her place.
The dead woman was from Garnet Pavilion and fell under concubine Ah-Duo. After a small tea party, Maomao noticed that Lishu is allergic to honey but Jinshi then assigned her to work under Ah-Duo at Garnet Pavilion. She noticed the head lady-in-waiting is a hard worker but there are some things she must be hiding.
Ah-Duo also seemed familiar to her and it felt like she had seen her somewhere before. Well, there was not much to notice and she just did normal cleaning and other work. She then reported what she saw at Garnet Pavilion to Jinshi. Jinshi’s attitude has been casual towards Maomao lately but this time he went a little overboard but Maomao was saved at the last moment.
She then told all her findings to Concubine Lishu too but this time she became certain that she was getting bullied by her servants. Upon reaching no answer Maomao asked about the past events that happened at the rear palace and to her suspicion her father used to work at the same place.
