Sequel Dragon Ball Super Movie Announced, Unexpected Character Teased

A New Dragon Ball Super Movie is officially announced for 2022 release by Toei Animation.

The new Dragon Ball Super movie will be a sequel to the Dragon Ball Super: Broly released back in 2018. Toei Animation announced the new movie on May 9 a.k.a Goku Day.

Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball series, wrote a special message for the fans who were eagerly waiting for any announcement regarding Dragon Ball Super anime for nearly three years now.

In the special message, Akira Toriyama confirmed that the new Dragon Ball Super Movie is under production.

He also confirmed that he is heavily leading the story and dialogue production of the new Dragon Ball Super movie.

Though he didn’t reveal the plot of the new Dragon Ball movie, he teased the presence of an unexpected character in the movie.

Regarding animation, Toriyama mentioned the movie will be exploring new territory of visual aesthetics to give the audience an amazing experience.

And with that, he ended the note by asking the audience to look forward to the new Dragon Ball Super movie as it will be an extreme and entertaining ride.

Akira Toriyama was responsible for the script, screenplay, and character design of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

So, considering his special message, it is confirmed that Toriyama will be the Lead Storyboard Artist and Scriptwriter for the sequel Dragon Ball Super Movie in 2022.

And it will not be surprising if Toriyama does the screenplay for the upcoming movie too.

Who is the Unexpected Character in the Dragon Ball Super Movie 2?

The whole Dragon ball community has been divided into groups regarding the unexpected character teased by Akira Toriyama.

One name is mentioned frequently in the comments of the official announcement tweet is Cooler, the elder brother of Freiza.

Looking back at how Broly led the prequel movie and Freiza being responsible for Broly’s awakening, the unexpected character might be Cooler.

Because Cooler was present neither in the anime nor the prequel movie of Dragon Ball Super.

So, Cooler might have a major role in the upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie releasing in 2022.

Though names like Gohan, Piccolo, Android 17, Android 18, Moro, and Yamcha were mentioned in the comment section of the official announcement tweet but looking at how all of the characters were present in the Dragon Ball Super universe, none of them can be considered as an unexpected character.

A few of them also mentioned Cell, but he can’t be the unexpected character as he is unrelated to the Dragon Ball Super universe.
